Shedd—Former Acting Director Defense Intelligence Agency—Named as Chairman of Draper Board
CAMBRIDGE, MA—Draper’s board of directors elected David R. Shedd, who served the U.S. government in a wide variety of national security and intelligence positions for nearly 33 years, as Chairman of the Board at its October 2018 board meeting.
Shedd previously served in various intelligence community leadership positions including deputy and acting director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, chief of staff for the director of national intelligence and senior director for intelligence programs and reform at the White House.
Shedd also brings experience from postings in senior management positions at the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Council and the U.S. embassies in Costa Rica and Mexico.
Since leaving the federal government in February 2015, Shedd has served as a Heritage Foundation Distinguished Fellow and is an Adjunct Professor teaching the relationship between intelligence and national security at Patrick Henry College. He works as an independent national security consultant and serves on several public and not-for-profit corporate boards.
A member of Draper’s Board of Directors since 2015, Shedd succeeds Franklin Miller, a retired senior nuclear policy and arms control advisor, who had served as chairman since 2013. Shedd underscored “I’m honored to be elected to this position and to remain associated with the extraordinary work that the men and women at Draper do every single day to solve extraordinarily difficult technical problems while looking for ways to contribute to the public good.”
